Letter: Two great columnists
Editor: Kudos go to the Sun-Star for publishing two local writers in the "Food and Flavor" section of the paper. They are Amanda De Jager Friedman and Russ Winton.
Friedman provides recipes in her column that coincide with holidays and the calendar's seasons. She prepares the reader with her personal experiences and insights about the recipe then transitions to her recommended dish.
Her thoughts are sometimes philosophical and analytical. I was struck by her view of Linus in the cartoon "Peanuts" when he is once again hoping against all hope for the Great Pumpkin to arrive with that pure innocence that we have all felt when we looked forward to some important event in our lives.
Winton has demystified the overwhelming volume of information dealing with wine. California has close to 700 wineries and foreign wines have heaped additional magnitude of facts, opinions, and evaluations upon wine drinkers. He has made recommendations for wines that don't break the bank, identified where wines may be obtained and has shown how wine can be paired with food.
Thanks to these columns good food and wine have been enjoyed.
