FRESNO -- A Tranquillity man was arrested early Sunday on suspicion of burglary at the Valley Family Market in Tranquillity after he became stuck in a roof air vent, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office reported Tuesday.
The suspect became stuck shortly after 5:30 a.m. after deputies went to the market for an alarm call.
Deputies surrounded the store and saw the man on the roof. He appeared to be stuck and could not respond to requests to come down.
Deputies later entered the store and discovered a large hole in the ceiling and several of the store shelves knocked over directly below.
Deputies, searched the store, found the suspect in the attic and had to go into the attic to take him into custody, the sheriff's office reported.
Investigators determined the man broke into the store through an air duct and then fell through the roof and onto the shelves below.
He became stuck in the air vent when he attempted to leave.
Items taken from the store had been hidden in the attic insulation, the sheriff's office reported.
The suspect was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries and later booked into Fresno County Jail on charges of commercial burglary.
