Merced County sheriff's deputies are on the lookout after an armed robbery Sunday at an Atwater area convenience store.
The robbery was reported at 7:45 p.m. at the Applegate Market, located at 1044 N. Applegate Road, according to Deputy Tom MacKenzie, sheriff's spokesman.
A male Latino suspect entered the store, wielding a chrome handgun and demanding cash from the clerk and a customer.
The clerk gave the suspect an undisclosed sum of cash from the register, while a customer handed over an undisclosed amount of cash from her purse. The 45-year-old woman had gone into the store to buy items for her kids when the robbery happened.
The suspect was wearing a bandanna over his nose and mouth. Investigators believe he's in his late 20s, with black hair and brown eyes. He's between 5-feet-4-inches and 5-feet-5-inches tall with a medium build.
MacKenzie said the suspect was wearing a gray sweatshirt. He fled on foot in an unknown direction.
Sheriff's investigators are asking anyone with information to call the Major Crime Division at (209) 385-7472. Callers can remain anonymous.
