FRESNO -- Six Fresno State players were named first-team all-Western Athletic Conference this morning as voted by the conference's nine football coaches.
On offense, junior lineman Andrew Jackson and junior running back Ryan Mathews were honored, while junior end
Chris Carter and junior linebacker Ben Jacobs were named to the squad on defense.
Fresno State had two of the three first-team picks on special teams, with sophomore kicker Ryan Goessling and senior punter Robert Malone named all-WAC.
Jackson, Carter and Jacobs were second-team selections a year ago. It was the first season-ending awards for Mathews, Goessling and Malone.
Undefeated conference champion Boise State -- which had a league-best seven players named to the all-WAC team -- split the conference's four individual awards with runner-up Nevada.
For Boise State, sophomore quarterback Kellen Moore was named Offensive Player of the Year and Chris Petersen repeated as the conference's Coach of the Year.
For Nevada, junior end Dontay Moch was named Defensive Player of the Year and wide receiver Brandon Wimberly was named Freshman of the Year.
Four Fresno State players were named to the second team: senior wide receiver Seyi Ajirotutu, junior offensive lineman Kenny Wiggins; junior defensive back Lorne Bell and senior defensive back Moses Harris.
