Update: As rain and wind are predicted, sand and sand bag locations are available

The Merced County Office of Emergency Services (OES) said this morning that sand and other sand bag materials are now available at County fire stations, in preparation for any localized flooding from the rain.

Fire station locations include:

Merced County Public Works Yard – Road Division 2165 W. Wardrobe Ave. (use Thornton Road entrance); Ballico Fire Station 11284 Ballico Ave.; Cressey Fire Station 9255 Cressey Way; Delhi Fire Station 16056 Acacia St.; Dos Palos “Y” Fire Station 8047 W. Dairy Lane; El Nido Fire Station 10537 S. Highway 59; Gustine Fire Station 686 Third St.; Livingston Fire Station 1430 C St.; McKee Fire Station 3360 North McKee Rd.; McSwain Fire Station Gurr Road and Highway 140; Planada Fire Station 9234 East Broadway; Santa Nella Fire Station 29190 Centinella Rd.; Snelling Fire Station 15974 Lewis St.; Stevinson Fire Station 2738 Lander Ave.

The National Weather Service is predicting rain in the Merced area now through Sunday evening, Dec. 13. Winds are expected to range between 13 and 16 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.

Heavier rains are expected on Saturday and Sunday, one-half to one inch of rain on the Valley floor is predicted. Some localized flooding may occur. For more weather related information, please visit the National Weather Service Web site at www.nws.noaa.gov.
