I'd been trying to track down former Merced College two-sport stud Hannah Low for our All-Decade coverage. MC women's basketball coach Allen Huddleston gave me her number and then called ahead to let Low know that I'd be calling. Huddleston got an unforeseen replay. Low told him that if I was going to call, I probably had to do it then and there. The reason. Low was in labor -- eight centimeters dilated -- and didn't know when I'd be able to get a hold of her later. She was known for toughness in her two years on the MC campus, but being prepared to give a phone interview right before you give birth is above and beyond. Knowing how much I unintentionally annoyed my wife during our son's birth, I respectively opted not to make the call. Here's hoping Low and her new baby have an excellent 2010.
