Police respond to attempted home invasion

ATWATER -- Attempted home invasion was reported late Wednesday at a residence in the 1800 block of Lake Ridge Street.

Atwater police say no suspects have been arrested, and they're asking anyone with information in the case to notify investigators.

Police responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call at 11:07 p.m., according to Detective Armando Echevarria.

The female victim reported hearing a knock at her door. She looked outside and saw a car, possibly a silver four-door Chrysler, parked outside the residence.

After the victim heard a second knock, a man demanded her to open the door. The victim said the man then began trying to kick the door open. The victim looked outside and saw a second man walking toward her home, carrying a rifle. Alarmed, the woman and others inside the residence called police, Echevarria said.

The two suspects, described as a white man and a Latino male, then got into the car and left the scene. Echevarria said there were also two others inside the car, although their descriptions are unavailable.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case to call (209) 357-6396 or the department's automated tip line at (209) 357-6390. Tips are kept confidential, and callers can remain anonymous.
