Sailor on Bataan waits for news of his Haitian relatives

Navy Chief Warrant Officer Wilfrid Bossous was at home in Portsmouth playing video games with his 5-year-old daughter when his wife called him upstairs to see the pictures on CNN.

To Bossous, they were more than images of crumbled Haitian buildings and bodies. They were pictures of his homeland.

Less than a day later, he received orders to report to the Bataan with 1,100 other Hampton Roads-area sailors. The amphibious assault ship was rushing to deploy to Port-au-Prince, the city of Bossous’ birth and the place where dozens of his relatives are now missing.
