Allen Huddleston has been challenging his guards to attack for weeks.
With Lady Devils center Linda Murray often drawing extra defensive attention, Huddleston's been hoping her teammates would take advantage of the open space.
Sophomore Courtney Whitehurst did precisely that on Saturday night.
Whitehurst was John Stockton to Murray's Karl Malone and together they scored almost half of MC's points in a 67-36 rout of visiting Porterville.
Whitehurst finished with 11 points to complement Murray's game-high 22.
The duo wasn't dominant throughout, however.
The Lady Devils (1-1 CVC, 8-12) took a 31-24 lead into intermission after a lethargic first half.
A much more focused team took the court in the second half, denying Porterville (1-1, 3-13) any chance of a comeback by holding them to 12 points in 20 minutes.
"At halftime we talked about the need to pick up our energy," Huddleston said. "We were more aggressive defensively, we rebounded and we showed what happens when we run the floor."
