Letter: UC is accessible

Editor: A UC education is more accessible than many think.

With freshmen class sizes being reduced across our state's university systems perhaps our Valley's future students should look into attending one of our local community colleges. Not only are they affordable at $26 a unit but both of our state's systems of higher learning accept transfer students as juniors.

One of the ways UC does this is though its Transfer Admission Guarantee program, which gives qualified community college students written guarantees of admission.

All students have to do is fill out the free form and submit it a year before they transfer.

This kind of commitment to community college students helps ensure that every Californian has access to one of the world's greatest public higher education systems.

Last year, I filled out my Transfer Admission Guarantee form with my counselor at the Willow International Center for UC Merced, and I'm excited that I will be attending UC Merced this upcoming fall. It's amazing that we have such resources here in the Valley.
