Ships, sailors fine after 6.0 Haiti aftershock

Editor's note: Former Merced Sun-Star reporter Corinne Reilly is covering the situation in Haiti for The Virginian-Pilot.

No Norfolk-based ships suffered major damage, and no personnel were seriously hurt, during a massive aftershock felt across Haiti early this morning, officials aboard the ships reported. It's not yet known how Haitians and others onshore fared.

More than 1,000 sailors stationed in Hampton Roads are deployed on vessels working to deliver aid to victims of last week's earthquake. Most were just waking up aboard ships anchored offshore when this morning's magnitude 6.1 aftershock struck.
