Sexual assault reported

A sexual assault involving an 18-year-old woman was reported after midnight Sunday on Hampshire Court, according to the Merced Police Department.

Police released few details about the incident Sunday, although a 22-year-old man is in custody on suspicion of committing the alleged rape, according to Lt. Tom Trindad.

A counselor responded to the scene after the incident was reported, to provide emotional support to the victim, according to Lt. Bimley West.
