Robbery reported at Bank of America in Merced

Culprit fled on bicycle, police said

Merced police say no one was injured Wednesday in a robbery reported at the Main Street branch of Bank of America.

Police arrived at the bank, 710 Main St., after receiving a call shortly after 1 p.m., said Cmdr. Floyd Higdon.

Bank employees said the robber entered the bank and approached a teller, demanding cash and saying he had a weapon. After receiving the cash, the robber left and was last seen riding a bicycle westbound in the alleyway of 16th Street.

Higdon said no one saw the robber with a weapon, even though he claimed to possess one.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned Latino or black man, wearing a white, button-up, long-sleeve shirt, white pants and white-brimmed hat.

Police are asking anyone with information about the robbery to call detective Chris Russell at (209) 385-4707 or the department's automated tip line at (209) 385-4725. Calls are kept confidential, and you can remain anonymous.

Reporter Victor A. Patton can be reached at (209) 385-2431 or vpatton@mercedsun-star.com.
