Roundup: Le Grand back in Southern League title race

LE GRAND -- Le Grand's seniors had never been swept by Turlock Christian in a basketball season and the group was determined to make sure this season wouldn't be any different.

LG overcame an 0 for 18 shooting performance in the first quarter and put itself back in the SL title hunt with a 40-35 victory over TC (9-1 SL).

TC led 2-0 after the first quarter, but Le Grand caught fire in the second. LG (9-2 SL) outscored TC 18-8 to take a 20-10 lead into intermission.

Cindy Wilson scored 10 points and added 11 rebounds for Le Grand. Veronica Moreno finished with 12 points and Monica Manzo chipped in nine.

Karissa Spycher (12 points) and Amy Wright (10 points) combined for 22 points to help TC keep the game close in the second half.

LIVINGSTON 32, HILMAR 23

HILMAR -- The Livingston girls basketball team clamped down on Hilmar during the fourth quarter to keep its lead atop the Western Athletic Conference.

Livingston went on a 10-2 run in the fourth quarter to hold off Hilmar.

Maria Flores had 13 points for Livingston (10-1 WAC, 16-7) and Zyra Padilla added 10.

LOS BANOS 48,

BUHACH COLONY 33

ATWATER -- The Los Banos girls basketball team got off to a hot start against Buhach Colony and cruised to a Central California Conference win.

Los Banos junior Ieashia Isby scored a game-high 16 points and Brianna Harden tallied up 13.

Buahch Colony, which fell to 1-7 in the CCC, was led by Jessica Silva's 15 points. Los Banos improved to 5-4 CCC.

TURLOCK 65,

GOLDEN VALLEY 22

Golden Valley's Tori Johnson scored a team-high nine points, but it wasn't enough in a loss to CCC-leading Turlock.

GV fell to 1-7 in the CCC while Turlock improved to 9-0 and 20-4 overall.

Turlock knocked down six 3-pointers, including three from Kayla Schumann (18 points).

Camille Roberts also tallied 18 points for Turlock.

Vanessa Aleman chipped in seven points for GV.
