City of Merced has $2,500 fund available for services in Applegate Park

The city of Merced said it has $2,500 available from the Wahneta Hall Trust Fund for services described in the trust.

The trust requires the city to use a specific part of the trust for an endowment fund income to establish and maintain a mini-train system and/or a band concert program in Applegate Park.

The City Council disburses the funds each year to organizations that meet eligibility requirements.

Past recipients have included the Kiwanis Club of Greater Merced for the mini-train operation, as well as the Merced County Regional Arts Council, Merced Symphony Association and Merced Community Band for band concerts at the Merced Open Air Theater in Applegate Park.

Organizations interested in applying for funding should submit their letters of request to Alexander Hall, director of theParks and Community Services Department, 678 W. 18th St., Merced, 95340.

The application deadline for this year's funding is Feb. 16. Applicants should also plan to make a request for funding presentation at the recreation and parks meeting at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 22, in the Merced Civic Center Council Chambers, 678 W. 18th St., Merced.
