Around Town: Pebble Beach trip

Merced College's Community Services Office is hosting a bus trip to the 72-hole PGA Tour Championship Golf Tournament.

The bus will leave at 6 a.m. Thursday and return at 9 p.m. There will be a stop at Cannery Row in Monterey after the tournament.

Cost is $90 per person and includes transportation, admission and refreshments.

Valentine raffle

St. Luke's Church and School will have a Valentine's day raffle with dinner for two at the Charles Street Dinner House and a one-night stay at the Poppy Hills Bed and Breakfast in Mariposa.

The drawing will be at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke's. They will also have the Scholastic Book Fair at the school in Norvell Hall.

Singing Valentines

The Golden Valley Men's Barbershop Chorus is having its annual Singing Valentines program Friday and Saturday.

They will deliver a silk rose, Valentine card, a romantic song and a Polaroid photo of the recipient with the quartet. Cost is $40.

Indian cuisine

The Sierra Saving Grace Homeless Project will sponsor a fundraising dinner at Sierra Presbyterian Church 3603 M St. from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

Suggested donation is $10 and will include the second annual Valentine repast with Indian cuisine for either take-out or eat-in.

Homeless or unemployed individuals may eat free.

Sweetheart sock hop

The Los Banos High School Winter Band will present a Sweetheart Sock Hop from 7 to 10 p.m. Sunday at the DES Hall of Los Banos, 1155 I St.

Tickets are $10 each and there will be a live '50s band, Hula Hoop contest and twist contest.

Blood drives There will be blood drives at the following locations:

World Color Merced (formerly Quebecor) from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 16. Participants will receive a free T-shirt and movie pass.

Atwater Federal Penitentiary from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 16 in the visiting room.

Yosemite High School in Merced from 8:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Feb. 19 in the gym.

Yosemite Church in Merced from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 21.

All participants will receive a free T-shirt.

Customer service

The Greater Merced Chamber of Commerce with Merced College Customer Service Academy will offer a two-day workshop on customer service from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 18 and 24 at the Merced College Business Resource Center at 630 W. 19th St.

The class is $13 and earns a half-unit of college credit.
