A suspect wanted by Merced police on auto theft charges was Tasered by officers Monday after he allegedly tried to resist arrest.
Robert Chavez, 32, was arrested by police around 4 p.m. in the 7100 block of Rita Way in Winton, said Lt. Tom Trindad.
Police had obtained an arrest warrant for Chavez in connection with an auto theft investigation.
Chavez was also wanted by U.S. Marshals on a no-bail warrant for alleged methamphetamine sales, Trindad said.
After police arrived, Chavez resisted arrest and officers shocked him with a Taser. He was treated at a local hospital and later booked into the Merced County Jail, Trindad said.
Police also found evidence that Chavez was making fake credit cards and driving licenses, Trindad said.
Detectives are asking anyone with any information about the case to call to contact Detective Solis at (209) 385-4703 or the Merced Police Department's tip-line at (209) 385-4725.
