At least three of Hawaii's best competitive surfers will be at Half Moon Bay on California's Central Coast this weekend to compete in the Mavericks Surf Contest.
Waves as high as 50 feet could greet them and more than 20 other big-wave surfers on Saturday. In addition, organizers say the wave hoppers will face extremely strong currents, dangerous rocks, shallow reefs and bone-chilling water temperatures.
The North Shore's Dave Wassel, Brock Little and Jamie Sterling are expected to compete.
