Atwater group promotes family and youth events on new Web site

A community group in Merced plans to curtail cries of, "There's nothing to do in Atwater," with the launch of a new Web site, www.atwatercause.org.

Atwater Citizens Advocates United for a Safe Environment (ACAUSE) plans to post a calendar of family and youth-oriented events in the area on its Web site, in addition to listing ongoing classes and activities for children and their parents.

Members of the Atwater Police Department, educators and other community members formed the group last summer as a way to steer youth away from crime and get them involved in sports teams, clubs and other activities.
