Livingston High senior wins speech contest

Livingston High School senior Fernando Carrillo is the winner of this year's Rotary Area 8 speech contest, held Friday at Merced College and hosted by Merced Sunrise Rotary.

Second place went to Kayla Spangler of Atwater High School; third place was awarded to Courtney Jacqueline Wills of Golden Valley High School; and fourth place, Gary Womack of Merced High School.

The topic of the speeches was "The Future Is in Your Hands."

Carrillo will go on to compete for the district award March 13 at Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock.
