Snow expected in Yosemite, Sierra

A winter weather advisory has been issued for the Sierra Nevada from Yosemite National Park to the Kern County line from noon through midnight today.

The National Weather Service advisory is for areas above 5,000 feet. Snow is expected to begin falling by late morning, with accumulations of 5 to 11 inches.

Wind is expected to accompany the snowfall, with gusts of more than 45 mph over ridges and especially along the Sierra crest.

On the Valley floor, rain is expected until 4 p.m. Forecasts call for a high today of 56 and an overnight low of 46. More rain is expected Wednesday, with a high near 57 and southeast winds between 11 and 14 mph.
