There wasn't one superstar who led the Merced boys basketball team to a Central California Conference championship this year.
It was definitely a team effort.
The Central California Conference coaches agreed as all five Merced starters earned either first- or second-team honors.
The senior trio of Reggie Nelson, Brian Cooksey and Tyrone Bowie were named to the first team.
They were joined by Golden Valley's Trek Fayerweather, the Turlock duo of Eric Wetzel and Anthony Hubbard and Pitman's Dominic Romeo.
Turlock senior Travis Souza was named the CCC Most Valuable Player.
"In the grand scheme of things, giving Travis Souza the MVP award made sense," said Merced coach Marcus Knott, who was named the CCC Coach of the Year.
"He was very deserving and obviously the focal point of Turlock's offense night in and night out.
"Anyone that has seen us play could see all five of our starters contributed on both sides of the ball, and it was good that it was recognized by the coaches in the league."
Merced's Marques Barron and Otis Caery were named to the second team along with Atwater's Eriq Belt, Buhach Colony's Jarrell Davis and Golden Valley's Garrett Hill.
