Robber strikes Merced school credit union

The Merced School Employees Federal Credit Union on Olive Avenue was robbed at around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday by a white man who said he had a gun, according to Merced Police Sgt. Scott Skinner.

The robber, who was about 6-foot-2, entered the bank wearing a dark baseball cap and a blue windbreaker. He approached the teller, handed her a note that said he had a gun and demanded money. The robber escaped with an unknown amount of cash and headed south on foot.

There were about 30 people in the bank at the time of the robbery. No one was harmed, and police said no weapon was seen.

Officers searched the area, and the credit union was temporarily closed after the robbery. Police investigators interviewed witnesses and anyone in the area who may have seen the robber.

Anyone with information can call the police department's tip line at (209) 385-4725.
