Merced police release surveillance photos of bank robbery suspect

Merced police released surveilance camera photos Wednesday of a man who robbed Merced School Employees Federal Credit Union this week.

The bank, located at 1021 Olivewood Drive, was robbed around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday by a man who handed the teller a note saying he had a gun, according to Merced Police Sgt. Scott Skinner.

The robber, a white man in his early to mid-20s, 6-feet-2-inches tall, entered the bank wearing a dark baseball cap and a blue windbreaker. He approached the teller, handed her a note that said he had a gun and demanded money.

The robber escaped with an unknown amount of cash and headed south on foot.

There were about 30 people in the bank at the time of the robbery. No one was harmed, and police said no weapon was seen.

Officers searched the area, and the credit union was temporarily closed after the robbery.

Anyone with information can call (209) 385-6913 or the department's tip line at (209) 385-4725.
