An 18-year-old man was arrested Saturday after police pulled over his car and allegedly found a handgun and cocaine.
Nahun Alcarez was taken into custody after police spotted him driving a Ford Expedition 10 mph above the 30 mph speed limit on Martin Luther King Jr. Way, according to Lt. Bimley West.
After police determined the suspect's driver's license was suspended, he was taken into custody West said.
Alcarez's vehicle was inventoried by police prior to impounding it. Officer Eduardo Chavez discovered Alcarez had a .22 caliber handgun and bullets inside his backpack. Alcarez didn't have a permit to carry the weapon on his person or in his vehicle, West said.
While being booked at the jail, Alcarez's wallet was searched by the jail staff, who found .08 grams of cocaine, police said.
Alcarez was booked on suspicion of cocaine possession, driving on a suspended license, speeding and illegal possession of a handgun.
