WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Dennis Cardoza said he introduced the Grown in America Act today in the U.S. Congress. The bill encourages both consumers and producers to show their pride for American agriculture. Specifically, H.Res. 1558 encourages producers to display the American flag on U.S.-grown product labels, the congressman said in a news release.
“I have consistently advocated the need to support products made in the United States,” said Cardoza. “Given our ongoing work to pull back from the recession, I believe it is extremely important that we raise awareness and consciousness about products produced in the greatest country in the world. I believe this to be especially true in the San Joaquin Valley, where we grow some of America’s finest fruits, vegetables and nuts. I am proud of this country – I am proud of the bounty our farmers produce for our country. Like many I represent, I want to help call attention to the finest crops grown by the finest people found anywhere in the world.”
The resolution notes that the American flag is the country’s most honored national symbol and that farmers regularly display it on their barns and in their homes. The resolution further notes that the flag, like American agriculture, shows commitment to hard work and the nation’s historic ability to rise to any occasion, the news release continued.
