Sierra Presbyterian Church has been granted a stay of enforcement by the Synod of the Pacific which will allow the church to remain open, pending a further hearing.
The synod issued an order to the Presbytery of Stockton informing it that the synod had received Sierra's complaint, accepted the case on the preliminary questions and had entered a stay of enforcement of the presbytery's decision to close Sierra. The presbytery originally had voted to close the church in early October.
Sierra's Saving Grace Homeless Project said it has continued to serve medically needy homeless families and individuals. More than a dozen families have found permanent housing, qualified for disability or other benefits or found jobs through the project.
