'Run for the Fallen' honors county soldiers and Marines Saturday at Applegate Park

Gold Star Familes of Merced County said it invites the community to join in the local version of a national run that will take place for the first time in Merced, "Run for the Fallen," honoring fallen military members.

The run will be held Saturday, Aug. 21, at Applegate Park's flag pole on M Street. Registration begins at 6 a.m. and the run/walk starts at 6:30 a.m. Organizers said the day will give the community a chance "to remember the sacrifice paid for the price of our freedom" by soldiers and Marines from Merced County:

CPL Travis Layfield, Atwater; PFC Karina Lau, Livingston; CPL Joshua Pickard, Merced; CPL Cesar Granados, Le Grand; SSG Frank Gasper, ;Merced and SPC Lukas Hopper, Merced.

Participants are asked to register by sending their name, who they will honor that day and how many miles they will run/walk to:
