One of county's most wanted apprehended

Sheriff's deputies say the parolee was involved in a pursuit last week.

A 39-year-old who escaped during a pursuit last week with Merced County sheriff's deputies is back behind bars after being arrested by deputies Wednesday afternoon.

Andrew Roggero was taken into custody by STAR Team Detective Dustin Witt and AG STAR Team Detective Brandon Thomas. The detectives found Roggero working for a company, collecting scrap metal on Santa Fe Drive in the Beachwood area, according to Deputy Tom MacKenzie, sheriff's spokesman.

The parolee had been scrapping trailers parked in the area, damaged by a flood years ago.

Detectives watched the location, saw Roggero arrive for work and took him into custody without incident. He'd been wanted on a felony narcotics warrant, MacKenzie said.

Roggero was allegedly involved in an Aug. 19 high-speed pursuit with deputies that began in Merced and ended in the 5000 block of Plainsburg Road near Planada.

The chase lasted around 30 minutes until Roggero went off road into an orchard, deputies say. Deputies lost Roggero in the dust, although a CHP plane later found his truck abandoned, not far from where the pursuit ended.

Deputies searched the area with K9 dogs, but were unable to find him.

Roggero was booked into the Merced County Jail, where he remains without bail.
