Denham: 'Water will be primary focus'

MODESTO – Congressman-Elect Jeff Denham today released the following statement about his appointment to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the House Committee on Natural Resources:

“I’m excited and grateful to have been appointed to the Natural Resources and Transportation & Infrastructure Committees.

“With jurisdiction over the Bureau of Reclamation, Army Corps of Engineers, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Clean Water Act, water will be a primary focus.

“The committee’s jurisdiction have direct impacts on my constituents daily lives and I look forward to working on policies that create job growth, reduce the regulatory burden, and improve the lives of families in the Valley, especially when it comes to water.

“The Natural Resources Committee will allow me to focus on water supply, national parks, forestry, energy production, and endangered species issues for the betterment of my constituents.

“The Transportation Committee will afford me the ability to support proper infrastructure development, improve water and flood control facilities and ensure government is doing its best to assist citizens in times of crisis.”

The House Committee on Natural Resources has jurisdiction over all U.S. Department of Interior programs, National Forests, energy facilities on federal lands and the Endangered Species Act. More information can be found at: http://resourcescommittee.house.gov/

The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure has jurisdiction over all U.S. Department of Transportation programs, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers programs, and the U.S. Transportation Security Administration, among others. Denham was elected to serve the 19th congressional district of California, replacing retiring Congressman George Radanovich. Denham will be sworn into office on Jan. 5, 2011.
