A 6-year-old child was taken to a local hospital Friday afternoon after nearly drowning in a pool at the Millennium Sports Club on East Yosemite Avenue.
After the child went underwater, staff immediately noticed and pulled him out, said Lt. Matt Williams of the Merced Police Department. Paramedics were quickly called to the scene.
"The little kid was responsive and talking to them, he was probably just scared," Williams said, adding that the child was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
