Merced arts supporters are turning to social media to raise money for the Merced Multicultural Arts Center, after the nonprofit group announced the three-story building in Downtown Merced is in danger of closing its doors for good.
They're asking people to take a picture of themselves holding a sign reading "Rescue The Arts" and make the image their Facebook profile picture for three weeks.
They're hoping the viral effort will increase awareness for Arts 24, a fundraising effort next month in which they've given themselves 24 hours to raise $12,000 for the arts council.
Arts 24 is scheduled for Friday, June 10, beginning at 6 p.m.
