Second cutting of alfalfa almost complete in Merced County

A report on crop conditions for Merced County for the week ending May 29 has been released by the Merced County Agricultural Commissioner’s office.

Small grain harvest continues for forage as well as hay. Rice seeding is almost complete.

Corn continues to be planted and the second cutting of alfalfa is almost complete. Cotton planting is complete.

Fungicides are being applied to grapes. Peach thinning continues. Blueberry and cherry harvests continue. Weed spraying in orchards is ongoing.

Bell pepper, cantaloupe, honeydew, sweet potato, market tomato and processing tomato planting continue. Asparagus harvest and sweet potato field fumigations are winding down. Strawberry harvest and strawberry stock planting continue.

Supplemental livestock feeding continues. Rangeland conditions are good.
