Yosemite apple-picking event designed to deter bears

Published: August 5, 2011

Removing an apple a day keeps the bears away.

Yosemite National Park is inviting the public to help remove apples from its historic apple orchards as part of an effort to prevent the park's black bears from seeking out the non-native food source.

This year's apple picking is scheduled for Wednesday in the Curry Village Apple Orchard from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Lamon's Apple Orchard (near Valley Stables) from 2 to 5 p.m.
