It's official: John Carlisle's running for Merced City Council.

A day after I published a blog post questioning whether Carlisle would seek a second term, he withdrew his candidacy papers from the Merced County elections office.

Carlisle said he hadn't made up his mind prior to Tuesday and didn't want to commit himself until he was sure he wanted to run.

His decision means the filing period for the council ends on Friday -- if he had failed to turn in his papers this week, candidates would have had another week to turn in their paperwork.

Merced Sun-Star is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
