Police nab alleged taco bandit

A 31-year-old woman was arrested Sunday after Merced police say she broke into a Mexican restaurant and stole a bucket of rolled tacos.

Mary Konisha Jones was taken into custody shortly after 8 p.m., not long after police say she broke into Cotija Taco Shop at 61 W. Main St. Officer Keith Rieg was responding to a burglar alarm and saw the glass front door of the business had been smashed out, police said.

As Rieg was made his approach to the building, he spotted Jones walking out of the business through the smashed out glass door, holding the bucket in her arms.

While searching Jones' person, the officer found a narcotics pipe. Jones was booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia. She’s being held in lieu of $15,000 bail.
