Merced Youth Baseball hosting Dinner with the Stars
Brian Fuentes and Doug Fister will be among the guests as the Merced Youth Baseball organization hosts a fund-raiser at the Merced County Fairgrounds on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 6 p.m.
The dinner will be held in Yosemite Hall "Commerce." Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at McNamara Sports, Tire World and Valley Sports Academy.
Also among the guests will be Dusty Ryan, Eddie Gamboa, Curtis Partch, Brandin Hagens, Jake Sisco and Matt Stabelfeld.
The proceeds will go toward Merced High softball and baseball, Golden Valley baseball, Merced College baseball and Merced youth softball and baseball.
Competitive softball tryouts
There will be tryouts for a 12-under competitive softball team out of Merced on each Saturday in January at Moraga Park from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. If you were born 1999 or later, you're eligible for the team, which will be playing in tournaments from March-November.

Golden Valley/Merced AAU
Merced coach Hector Nava and Golden Valley coach Keith Hunter will be holding tryouts for five Saturdays for AAU travel basketball teams for grades 5 through 8.
Tryouts will begin at Merced High on Jan. 14 and the cost is $40. Grades 5 and 6 will be at 9 a.m. and grades 7 and 8 will be at 11 a.m.
Merced softball registration
The Merced Girls Softball League will be registering for the 2011 season near the Sears at the Merced Mall on Jan. 14, 21, 28 and Feb. 4, 11 and 18.
