South Florida volunteer shot in Haiti

A South Florida volunteer was robbed and shot in Haiti while on a volunteer mission, according to a report by WSVN-Fox 7 Friday morning.

Dave Bompart, 50, was helping to build an orphanage when he was shot in the stomach Wednesday, the TV station reported. Cash and a passport were taken.

He underwent surgery in Haiti and was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, where he is struggling to survive.

Bompart has been volunteering in Haiti since the massive earthquake two years ago.

"It just kind of hit me in the past two hours that my husband was shot," his wife, Nicolle Bompart, told WSVN. "I never pictured myself saying that my husband was shot, and he may not make it. But I will tell you this, with 100 percent conviction: if he doesn't make it, he's going to a good place."
