Argument over money leads to Los Banos shooting

LOS BANOS -- A family dispute over money left a man in the hospital from gunshot wounds to the chest Wednesday morning.

Cmdr. Ray Reyna Jr. said police were called to the 300 block of Pomelo Avenue at 5:44 a.m. on a report of shots fired.

Officers found a 45-year-old man shot in the upper torso. The victim identified the shooter as Alejandro Sanchez, 32, of Los Banos, police said.

Sanchez, who is the victim's stepson, was located trying to flee the area. Sgt. Jesse Ceja was able to detain Sanchez.

During the investigation, police learned the victim and Sanchez were arguing about money before the shooting.

Detectives recovered a firearm believed to be involved in the shooting.

The victim was airlifted to a Modesto hospital and is in stable condition.

Sanchez was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide and a parole violation. He is being held without bail at Los Banos jail.
