Downtown Merced's Gallery on the Square to celebrate first anniversary with new show

Gallery on the Square will celebrate its first anniversary with the first new show of 2012 by painter Angela Corpora. An opening reception for the artist will be held on Feb. 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. Also displaying work in the gallery are artist's Jay Sousa, Renate Stolte, Cheryl Barnett, Tim Grimes, Monika Modest, Keith Law and Oscar Torres. Corpora is from Merced and is finishing her BFA at California State University Stanislaus. She works in various media, such as oil, acrylic, nupastel, conte’ and mixed media. Most of her work focuses on themes related to the constructions of womanhood, aging and religion, both positive and negative, based on her childhood and adulthood. Corpora is investigating using paint on canvas to uncover her unconscious.
