Arts Council to hold third Casino Royale evening March 10

The Merced County Arts Council will hold its third annual Casino Royale March 10 when its main gallery will be transformed into Las Vegas and the theatre decorated for nightlife.

The council asked Kimberly Zamora, a Merced County native who is a professional artist and owner of the downtown business, Tallulah Brigitta, to design the decor.

The event will feature such classic games as black jack, poker, craps and roulette, as well as Vegas-style cocktails and a buffet of appetizers and desserts.

Well-known photographer Roger Wyan will be on hand again this year, and for $5, guests can go home with a professional portrait. A long-time supporter of the arts community, Wyan is now the project manager/photographer at Venice Arts Merced, helping underserved kids through photography.

Last year, the Arts Council said it was at risk of closing the Arts Center doors indefinitely because of a lack of funding. The “Arts 24: Rescue the Arts,” campaign, organized by Janna Rodriguez, helped keep the council in business.

Executive Director Staci Santa said that campaign “was a pivotal turning point for the organization.” Santa added in a news release that events such as Casino Royale make a big impact on the council’s ability to keep the arts alive in Merced.

Tickets are $30 for members or $40 for non-members; tables of 10 are $300. Sponsorship opportunities are available, starting at $500. For more information or to buy tickets, contact Merced County Arts Council at www.artsmerced.org or (209) 388-1090.
