Pedestrian struck by Amtrak train in Merced

A male pedestrian was killed after being struck by a southbound Amtrak train around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Merced, about a mile west of the station, Amtrak officials reported.

The name and age of the victim hasn’t been released by the coroner's office, pending notification of family or next-of-kin.

The Oakland to Bakersfield train was delayed for more than an hour, according to a company spokesperson. Amtrak police are investigating the incident.
