The Merced County Arts Council will hold its third annual Casino Royale on March 10, when its main gallery will be transformed into a Las Vegas look-alike and the theater decorated for nightlife.
The council asked Kimberly Zamora, a Merced County native, professional artist and owner of the downtown business Tallulah Brigitta, to design the décor.
The event will feature such classic games as blackjack, poker, craps and roulette, as well as Vegas-style cocktails and a buffet of appetizers and desserts.
Photographer Roger Wyan will be on hand again this year, and for $5 guests can go home with a professional portrait. A longtime supporter of the arts community, Wyan is the project manager/ photographer at Venice Arts Merced, helping underserved children through photography.
Last year, the Arts Council said it was at risk of closing the arts center indefinitely because of a lack of funding. The "Arts 24: Rescue the Arts" campaign, organized by Janna Rodriguez, helped keep the council in business.
Executive director Staci Santa said the campaign "was a pivotal turning point for the organization." Events such as Casino Royale make a big impact on the council's ability to keep the arts alive in Merced, she said in a news release.
Tickets are $30 for members or $40 for nonmembers; tables of 10 are $300. Sponsorships are available and start at $500.
