For more information please call the Chamber at 384-7092 Upcoming Community Events ANNUAL DANCE KALEIDOSCOPE COMES TO MERCED COLLEGE STAGE Dancers from some of the area's best-known dance studios will perform on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 2 and 7 p.m. in the Merced College Theater. Dance Kaleidoscope returns for another year of entertainment, featuring young dancers from Danzantes de Merced, South Pacific Dance, Merced Academy of Dance, The Dancers' Studio, Mariposa Academy of Performing Arts, Denisa's School of Dance, and Steps Dance Studio. Presented by the Merced Dance Teachers Cooperative and Merced College Community Services, Dance Kaleidoscope is the collaborative effort of local dance studios. The event showcases many of the young talent being trained in the area's premier dance studios. Tickets are $10 general admission and $8 for ASMC student body card holders, children under 12, and seniors. Tickets can be purchased at Pacifica (611 W. Community News MERCED COLLEGE THEATRE MAJORS NOMINATED TO COMPETE Six Merced College theater students recently made their way to the American College Theatre Festival at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. The six, Julian Bremer, Alma Reyes, Elizabeth Gonzalez, Amber Fowler, Jenna George and Barrett Roseman, attended festival Feb. 6-11. Sponsored by the Kennedy Center, the American College Theatre Festival is a national organization that seeks to improve the quality of college and university theatre across the nation. It is divided into eight regions of the United States. Winners in production, acting and other competitions go on to compete at the national festival in Washington D.C. each April. Three of the students, Bremer, Reyes, Gonzalez were nominated to compete in the Irene Ryan Scholarship Acting Competition for their performances in "Twelfth Night" and "A Bright Room Called Day." "The students participated in the competition and saw about 12 plays from colleges and universities in our region (Arizona, Utah, Southern California, Nevada and Hawaii)," said Theater Professor Carin Heidelbach. The students also had the opportunity to attend numerous workshops on all aspects of theatre, she said. Additional colleges and universities represented at the festival include UC Riverside, University of Hawaii, Utah State University, USC Northridge, CSU Bakersfield, Fresno & Stanislaus Arizona State University, Cal Poly Pomona, Mesa Community College, Westmont College
