Six Merced College theater students attend national festival in Utah

Six Merced College theater students recently attended the American College Theatre Festival at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. The six — Julian Bremer, Alma Reyes, Elizabeth Gonzalez, Amber Fowler, Jenna George and Barrett Roseman — attended the festival Feb. 6-11.

Sponsored by the Kennedy Center, the festival is a national organization that seeks to improve the quality of college and university theater across the nation. Winners in production, acting and other competitions go on to compete at the national festival in Washington D.C. each April.

Three of the students — Bremer, Reyes, Gonzalez — were nominated to compete in the Irene Ryan Scholarship Acting Competition for their performances in "Twelfth Night" and "A Bright Room Called Day."

Other colleges and universities represented at the festival included UC Riverside, University of Hawaii, Utah State University, USC Northridge, CSU Bakersfield, Fresno and Stanislaus, Arizona State University, Cal Poly Pomona, Mesa Community College and Westmont College.
