'Off the 99' podcast: 'Kony 2012'

The viral video "Kony 2012," making the rounds on YouTube and Facebook this month, has generated calls for attention to Joseph Kony's Lord's Resistance Army, a Ugandan guerrilla group accused of ordering the abduction of children to become sex slaves and soldiers. In October 2005, Sun-Star photographer Bea Ahbeck photographed some of the rehabilitation centers in Uganda where child soldiers, many sustaining severe wounds, and others displaced by war, sought safe haven.

Ahbeck joined Sun-Star managing editor Victor Patton in the Off the 99 studio to discuss the controversial video. Patton also talked with Ahbeck about her time in Uganda and how she felt about the guerrilla leader, who is now in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The show also includes audio interviews Ahbeck conducted during her 2005 trip, including a conversation with Nancy Abot, who was a baby-sitter, and Rose, one of Kony's "wives."
