Merced bicycylist, 47, hurt in hit-and-run crash

ATWATER -- A man riding a bike was hit by a car just after 1 a.m. Tuesday in the Beachwood neighborhood. The car fled the scene.

The bike rider, Merced resident Kevin Schlessinger, 47, was flown by air ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. The collision happened in the southbound lane of Franklin Road near Pandit Noor Way, just south of Santa Fe Drive. Schlessinger was riding his bike south, the same direction as the car.

The California Highway Patrol said the driver of the car fled the scene without stopping to help the injured Schlessinger.

The CHP wasn't able to provide a description of the car or the driver.
