MODESTO -- Two former residents of the area picked up repeat Emmy nominations Thursday.
Hilmar native Dot-Marie Jones received her second nomination for her recurring role as Coach Shannon Beiste in the hit Fox series "Glee." She is nominated in the category of outstanding guest actress in a comedy series.
Modesto native Robert Ulrich and his business partner Eric Dawson received their fourth Emmy nomination, this time for outstanding cast in a miniseries, movie or special for "American Horror Story." Casting directors Ulrich and Dawson previously were nominated in 2011 and 2010 for "Glee" (they won last year) and for 2005's "Nip/Tuck." All three shows were created by Ryan Murphy.
Both Jones and Ulrich received many congratulatory messages on their Facebook and Twitter pages.
"Thank u everyone for the wonderful messages!!" Jones tweeted. "Hell yeah I'm nominated for an Emmy!!! So proud to be part of an important kick--- show."
Jones is a Hilmar High School graduate and a former Modesto Junior College and Fresno State shot-put star and 15-time world arm-wrestling champion.
Ulrich is a Davis High graduate and attended Modesto Junior College and the University of the Pacific before getting his master's degree in English with an emphasis on film and theater at California State University, Stanislaus. He acted in shows for Modesto Youth Theater, now known as Modesto Performing Arts.
The Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony will air Sept. 23 on ABC.
