Merced Cheetahs headed to Houston

Five members of the Merced Cheetahs Track Club is headed to Houson next week for the AAU National Junior Olympics.

The Cheetahs will be represented by Anthony Farias, Hayley Espinoza, Isaiah Knott, Tamra Johnson and Anthony Kolb.

Some of the families are trying to raise money for the week-long trip. If interested in helping, call Cheetahs coach Tori Eva if interested in helping at (209) 230-0121.

The Panther Track club will also be sending 10 Merced County athletes to Houston. Naseem Hassaan, Naseer Hassaan, Giovanni Wiggins, Dominique Navarrette, Marcos Moreno, Chiara Boscolo, Ajah Hassaan, Nylah Hassaan, Nevaeh Martinez and Taylor Brown will all compete at the junior olympics.

The competition gets underway on Monday.

Freel wins Merced lady's golf tourney

Carla Freel shot a 72 to win the Northern Medal Month Tournament on Thursday at the Merced Golf & Country Club.

Freel edged out Sharon Sanchez and Carol Llamas by three strokes.

Betsy Williams finished fourth with a round of 76.
