Large power outage hits Merced

A large power outage was reported Sunday evening in Merced, affecting up to 10,000 customers, according to PG&E.

Preliminary reports are power was cut off to customers around 7:30 p.m. after a semitruck struck a substation, damaging equipment and bringing down power lines.

As of 9:30 p.m., PG&E had restored power to about 2,000 customers.

PG&E officials expect power to be restored to all customers around 10:30 p.m.
